Women say all sorts of things. It all depend on if what is said is believable and fit your general behavior. If I walked up to you and said I was Super Man you'd probably laugh and brush it off as bullshit or think I was some comic book nerd, because what I said isn't believable. The same goes with a straight woman saying she's gay, married, has a boyfriend or whatever if it's not true. If it sounds like a lie, then people will treat it like a lie. If it sounds believable, most guys will leave you alone. Some would probably think great, lets have a threesome. Really the best approach is always to be honest and direct. The more you lie or ignore guys the more they will think it's all just a game.

If she's not interested in a guy, it can be an effective method to stop him from trying to attract her, as some guys can be irritatingly persistent. However, if the guy knows she's not gay, then it can be a pretty hard to hit to his self esteem.
