So as of tomorrow I will be an 18 year old girl. I am fresh out of highschool. I am part of a community band that also some grade 11 and 12 students. I play the trumpet. There is a guy beside me ( lets call in john). John stares at me all the time. Lots of long glances, every time we walks past me he is already looking at me. We have talked a couple of times too. Not much but some. He stares so much its kinda uncomfortable. I dont really glance or stare back because im not good with attention or eye coontact. But he's kinda my type. I think he is a year younger, maybe even two. My whole life guys have checked me out and stared at me but only one has approached and I was 10 years old at the time. I was tired of waiting for guys to make a move because they never did so I decided to take matters into my own hands. I decided to go up to john after band practice and ask him out.

I was a bit awkward and bold about it. I went up and asked if he was single, and if he wanted to go on a date. He was surprised I think so he didn't say much but said yes. But looking back maybe I pressured im into saying yes somehow, and maybe he thinks Im crazy for asking him out of knowhere...

Im so confused as I have never been on a date ever, and have been boy sober my whole life. Im really scared and yeah. maybe I should have just went home and not asked him. Kinda regretting it because what if im a total bore, and just make everything so awkward like i always do. If it doesn't go well I still have to face him every week at band for 2 hours and sit beside him :(. Shit just got complicated cuz I asked him for a date.

after i asked him, I went out with a friend and told her all about my dilemma, and we came up with a message to send him on Instagram. I basically asked if he was still down to hangout and if he wanted to do something this weekend. so far he has not seen it... super nervous.

I guess im looking for an outsiders take on this situation. Please offer some help. IM JUST A GIRL

Okay, so to start guys really like girls to make the first move. It's something we love. So, you're already ahead of other girls because you asked him out. Trust me, if he wasn't at least moderately interested in you, he would have said no.
As for what to do on your date, BE YOURSELF don't be who you think he wants, make sure he wants you, not who you think he does. My fiancée and I have been dating for almost 6.5 years because we were always ourselves on dates. So, we know we love the other one for who they actually are.

Relax. You agreed to go on a date. What do you think will happen? You'll do some stuff together, talk for a bit, and get to know each other a little better. Maybe you'll both enjoy it, and agree to meet up again; maybe not. No explosions, no death, no bloodshed. It'll be fine.
