I don't think saying babe or baby, or hun or sweetheart is weird or cringe. After all this a guy in your life that you have at least some close connection with. And if that relationship is like FWBs then my opinion is that it's still nice to show caring for each other. After all, having orgasms with another person releases hormones that promote bonding. That's why friends with benefits situations sometimes evolve into something more.
