Why would a man invite you to accompany him to his University Alumni Reunion?

I am seeing this guy casually, just seeing nothing more, he probably likes me… And he has been inviting me these past 2 weeks and I didn’t go, today he invites me to the Notable Alumni Reunion of his university which is one of the best ones in the North America. What would I do there and why does he want me to accompany him? They are probably much smarter there than I am. Why does he want me to be there with him?
