Should I offer to pay for myself for date travelling to see me?

The guy I’ve been talking to, who lives in another city, is coming to see me. He has a 6-hour drive to my city and plans to stay for three days. We’re still getting to know each other, as we haven’t been talking for very long, and this will be our first time meeting in person.

Should I offer to pay my share? Some women expect the man to cover all the expenses, but he’s already paying for the trip and his stay here.

Normally, I would offer to pay on the first date, but if he insists on covering the cost, I wouldn’t bring it up again for the second or third date. However, I know some men feel offended when I offer to pay for myself.

The person that initiated the date is the one that should pay. If you did initiate it, then you pay and if he did, then he should be the one settling the costs. As simple as that.

Now, if that date of yours is traveling and stay in your city for as much as 3 days, it is just normal that he settles the travel expenses. It is not up to you to pay 50% of his expenses. You may pay your share on incremental expenses such as a drink or snack but that is about all what you should pay unless of course, you are the one that told him to come to your city. In this case, you are the one that should settle for all the costs because you placed such a financial burden on him.

Well, in this case, he made the choice to come so far because he is expecting more than just eating out. One would never travel that far just to go out for a quick snack in a café but one is expecting that the situation gets more horizontal.

I would settle for my share of the expenses as long as it does not exceed a certain amount but only for the first date or meal. Finally, going out at least 3 times is quite a burden on anyone's finances, mainly if something more is expected at the end.
