What do you think of people who meet their spouse online and they live in different states?

I ask because when I was in high school, that exact scenario happened with me. I commented on this one lady's YouTube Video, we started talking a lot on there, and we fell for each other eventually. YouTube was also a lot different back then, but that's another story. Keep in mind: I'm not trying to get her back, since that was a long time ago and I'm 100% certain it's not gonna happen. That's not why I ask this. The reason I do ask this is because we were both afraid to tell our families at the time, since we feared they'd say something like "That's dangerous" or we'd get judged. We didn't online date too long; I think we only did it for like a month, but we never met in person. She wanted to find a way to come to where I live, since she lived in Illinois and me in Colorado, and she would tell her parents she wanted to go see the Rocky Mountains and would get a hotel close to where I live. The main reason I ask is because I've now heard about 2 instances of relationships starting like that. One friend of mine's sister is with a guy she met online who lives in Minnesota, and this co-worker of mine this morning told me about his daughter being with a guy, coincidentially enough, also in Illinois. It got me thinking if this actually is frowned upon or if it's more normal than I thought. The reason we stopped dating and chatting is because I wanted to date someone in person, and this one lady I went to high school with tried to set me up with one friend of hers, but she wasn't interested in me. I regret dumping the lady in Illinois, but I was kind of an emotional wreck back then as a teenager, so we may have split eventually anyway, even if I didn't do that. I've actually never told anyone I know about it, even my best friends. So, what do you think, is this normal and acceptable? I'm just curiously asking.

I met my S/O online, we spoke for 6 months as friends before we met. We live 2 Hours away from each other and it's good because it gives you space to grow but I understand the part where you felt you'll be judged. A lot of families are sceptical of Romantic Relationships that start online and I understand why or how that can come about. It is normal but get to know the person better. Majority of my friends are from overseas and guess where we met? Online. Just be safe out there.

Living 2 hours away is a completely different story. My mom once dated a guy that lives 5 hours away from us. I'm talking about if you live in one state and they live in another state that's pretty far, and you hadn't met them in person before

Friendship without sex is just friendship. You can meet people you click with strongly anywhere the internet just makes it easier and more frequent. Those people either put effort in to make a it a real relationship or don't. Life rarely gives you repeat opportunities hold onto the great ones.

I'd probably agree. My friends' sister got engaged to the guy in Minnesota, and did meet in person plenty of times, so I think it can work.

i guess that social media as made these train wrecks more prevalent. I was in one a long time ago before email. I did it for 3 years and there was no way we were ever going to be together. I decided I wanted to try and have a relationship with somebody that I could see every week so I broke up with her. I really did love her but I did what was best for both of us.
