Should I ask him to give it a try with us?

I met a wonderful guy a month ago. He had just traveled to my country, and we ended up meeting three times in total—on three consecutive days right before he left. We got along so well and felt a strong connection between us. He’s a bit shy but incredibly sweet, and I really like him. I'm sure he likes me too, but I don't know how deeply he feels about me. Things didn’t go beyond kissing. We also spent hours walking around and sharing our stories. At first, I thought a long-distance relationship wouldn’t work—we live more than 9,000 km apart, and I’ve already experienced a failed long-distance relationship. I told him that everything would likely end once he returned to his country.
We’ve stayed in touch. Neither of us enjoys texting much, we only exchange one message a day to keep in contact. I believed that over time, we would both move on and forget these strong feelings we shared. But now I’m wondering—how can I let that happen? It's really hard for me to meet someone who makes me feel this way. If something is hard to make work, maybe it’s worth trying harder. I really want to give us a try. I know he will never ask me, but I’m scared to be the one to ask. Should I tell him exactly how I feel? If not, how should I talk with him about it?
