How do I confront him without ending things?

Still early days

He doesn’t really engage with me on intellectual topics or meaningful conversations, though I genuinely try to initiate them. Interestingly, I end up learning more about him through his friends than from him directly. He’s naturally quiet, reserved, and avoids confrontation, which makes this even trickier. Be honest, am I doomed here? Or is there still hope for me to get him to open up and share more about himself, despite his reluctance?

if he doesn’t want to share about himself trust me he won’t, i have been in the same place as you before. it’s one of two things. one he doesn’t think he is interesting enough to talk about or he is just not interested in telling you about him self but there is not way you can fix it. if you are okay with how stuff are now then stay with him but if you are not then i would say it’s better to end it now then to wait any longer. it could also be that he is just not comfortable around you and doesn’t KNOW what to share
