Because "its diverse while still centering whiteness" or something like that. It's getting better now, but the reason that seemed so common was the same reason for the "token black character" or "black best friend" in a mainly white cast.

It was never an issue of trying to force diversity or interracial couples, it was an issue of trying to keep diversity as small and unintrusive as possible so things could mostly stay the same and still be mainly about white characters and stories. Since that's changing, we will see fewer black x white couples (including lesbians) and more black x black couples and other interracial couples where neither partner has to be white to appeal to general audiences.

That's a strange way to put it since it's all acting and characters, but yes, the idea was usually "just stick a black person in with the white people and it'll get diversity points." There are some stories that are actually about interracial black x white lesbians too though, and those are usually written a lot more intentionally so that the black persons race couldn't just be swapped to white and nothing about the story would change. There's reason for it in the story itself, not just as a tag-on after the fact.

Personally for myself, I don't want a romantic relationship with anyone, of any race or gender. I am not attracted to fat people either, yet I am not disgusted by movies about fat people in relationships. If she's black American on average they are 25% European, if she's Caribbean she's a mix of European, Asian and African if she's from west, central, southern and eastern Africa ( besides horn Africans) she's 100% Sub-Saharan African

I don't think most people are into race mixing to be honest, regardless of which race they come from. It seems to be something instinctive in us, and I think it has to do with the fact that we're mostly attracted to our own race and every one that mixes is one fewer option for ourselves or our children, and down the line it would destroy our various races by miscegenation. Personally, I think it would be a shame to lose that racial diversity. I do wish racism would end, but I would like to preserve the races rather than us all ending up looking the same. I'm not even sure why, but it's quite a strong feeling that it's important somehow.
