"Know your boundaries". People meet somebody, get to know them, develop feelings, and then expect that person to change to be what they want to be. People generally take too much time indulging their feelings and not enough time understanding who that person is. Expecting someone to change is an exercise in futility, for everyone. It's best that you understand what your boundaries are going in. Know what you expect from your partner and communicate it. If that's simply not who that person is you need to accept it and move on.

She's definitely never listened to my grandfather's advice. It was mainly to keep me safe from woman from New Jersey. Not sure where you are from but staying away from girls from New Jersey is universal good advice.
