People are cowards and lack social skills. They lack the ability to just tell someone something isn’t going to work. They are getting constant attention fed to them so they have too many people blowing them up constantly… They think it’s okay to lead people on to use them for that.
There is a lot of reasons but if you’re ghosted just leave them alone. If someone’s interested and not toxic. They won’t do that just let people to who don’t matter. Some people even do it as a means to emotionally control someone. Constantly talking and then drop off without warning. Just to make you wonder what you did wrong. Things like that. It’s just how some people are it’s just who some people choose to be. Those people did you a favor.
ghosting is common because a lot of people dont have emotional maturity or the ability to understand how another person might feel due to there actions not only does this lead to excessive pain but it also leads to really nice potential partners becomeing a total b***** and not respecting others allowing this cycle to repeat i also feel like a lot of people in society dont truly think past themselves and thats understandable considering its a tense moment but i do think its important to realize that regardless its not a good thing to do as it just ends in hurt and regret
1. People would rather avoid an uncomfortable conversation than be direct with someone.
2. Lack of accountability since meeting on dating apps or casually means you aren’t in their social group so they don’t feel they have to be nice when ending things.
3. Following number 2- instant gratification. Nowadays, and because of dating apps, people prioritise quick chemistry over long term compatibility so they lose interest fast and then because of dating apps or meeting people casually, it’s easier to just ghost when they’re bored.
4. Emotionally unavailable, they literally just don’t care man’s more often than not are too immature to have an uncomfortable conversation about not being interested anymore.
It was always a common thing...
The Viking wouldn't go back to the Valkyrie's tent at night.
The knight would gain the favor of his maiden love and then never ride back to see her... she thought he was dead but he married another...
Socrates... Shakespeare... and a million other famous guys who were married were never around their wives, never writing to them or showing any sign they gave a flying f about them...
Now we have "social media" -- it should be called "antisocial media" because it gives people too much room to mess with and obsess over one another in ways that (in any other time throughout history) would be considered creepy.
Neglecting, or ignoring someone isn't always the same thing with ghosting though. Ghosting is when you abruptly end all communication with a person and disappear without leaving any signs of life behind. It's forever. Being ignored doesn't necessarily require the utter absence of another person. It could be a temporary cold shoulder during a rift
@SereneScribe3 I know what it is... I was making a point that the concept has existed already. A guy doesn't want to talk to you... he won't. Calling it "ghosting" doesn't make it a different thing.
I see your point about how people have always chosen not to engage or communicate with someone, when they don't want to, but I think there’s a difference between neglecting someone and ghosting. With Socrates and Xanthippe, for example, it's more about neglect—Socrates was emotionally distant, focused on his philosophical work, and likely didn’t prioritize his family life, but he didn’t completely disappear or leave Xanthippe without any signs of life. In fact, Xanthippe was even present at his execution, showing that there was still some kind of ongoing interaction, even if it was strained. That’s quite different from ghosting as we know it today, where someone vanishes without a trace and offers no closure.

Lack of maturity to express their thoughts and needs; no social skills; power moves; sometimes just going unnoticed or being overwhelmed.
There's a lot going on at all times and people easily get distracted or lose interest, so... pick your poison.
No such thing. Much like the immature “friend zone” balderdash, it is just something people do to themselves but hey, it is easier to put the blame on someone else, right?
People don’t want to waste time dancing around someone else’s feelings just to part ways in the end, so they get it over and done with instantly.
People are slowly shifting to not wanting to communicate or seeking for the easy way out of situations
Folk are too scared to hurt others and deal with conflict these days. Offending someone by rejection isn't a nice feeling. No one wants to BE guilty of anything so they avoid it and hope it ignores them and goes away.
It's the easy way out, and if you don't have any social connections to each other, the fallout is minimal.
in my opinion it is because so many people lack social skills & don't know how to communicate.
Because it's easy to hide behind a screen and a keyboard. Duh.
Because we are tired of putting ourselves at risk and waste our time and comfort for someone we don't want
Because you dummies think dating is done over the internet!
Because there's no immediate risk to their lives.
It is easier than dealing with it like an adult. I am guilty of ghosting. Never someone I was in a relationship with though. Just randoms on the net.
Oh thou art wrong ghosting isn't common kid, check thy info
We are all afraid any negative confrontation, It just makes us feel awkward or uncomfortable.
Internet is like that. Faceless annonous. They just disapear like hoot
If you’re a non confrontational person that’s the only option
It's easier than having a difficult conversation.
They found something better OR got caught
People care more about themselves these days
People are cowards
Because don't want to waste time on dumbass
