1 yI’ve been out of the game for so long, I can’t even imagine operating in that sort of dynamic. Seems like kind of a gong show, haha.
During Covid, a bunch of my buddies were sending screenshots of weird profiles from their area, so I made a Tinder account to see what was going on in my area. Didn’t put any pics of myself, I wasn’t actively looking for anyone, just wanted access to it.
And, man…I don’t know if it was just sparse due to Covid, or maybe I’m too shallow😅, but…. the selection left A LOT to be desired, lmao. I can’t even imagine what’s going on on there as far as male suitors go🤦♂️😂 Put it this way: if it was a bar, I would have walked in and turned right around and left, lmao. I don’t expect to walk into a room full of supermodels, I find plenty of physical beauty in average everyday women, but this was just…. no😂 It made me wonder some shallow thoughts, like “do hot people still just meet in real life, and then everyone else comes on here?”, lmao.
The only traditionally “hot” women I saw profiles for were OBVIOUS scams. And like I said, I didn’t really set up a profile of any sort, yet I’d still get matches, and I even paid extra for a minute to see who the hell was matching with a blank profile, and again, obvious scams, mostly fake pictures of Chinese girls, lmao. So the whole thing seems like a real minefield.
Also, the fun was over in less than week, I swiped through everyone possible, so at that point I just deleted it. Had a few laughs with the boys, but I can’t compete with my one friend who lives around Southern New Hampshire. I can spot a New Hampshire chick from a mile away, I don’t know why, but I can😂 And they apparently are all looking for a “third” to join them with/for the boyfriend/husband. And that’s fine, but the people in question….. it’s not like who you’d hope it would be, haha. Plus everyone had all these weird hobbies and interests, in addition to looking like they go to the Gathering Of The Juggalos🤡😂
Hopefully I just had a weird personal experience with Tinder, and all these poor souls out there looking for love are playing with a better deck😝

Oh, one last thing: the audacity —THE AUDACITY— of women preemptively criticizing men’s profiles because it’s apparently played out to have a picture of you holding a fish we caught (and if it’s a bass, that thing almost certainly went back in the water alive, so it’s not even like we’re posing with dead animals), while turning around and every one of these women has a selfie posing with some goofy drink from Starbucks, or you crew of friends posing in front of the neon sign at a club. Talking about “if you have a picture of you holding a dead fish, swipe left.” HOW DARE YOU, MA’AM🤨😒

I don't see how you could possibly have been dating in the last 10 years without one. It is the by far most common way to meet your partner now.
So yes, of course I have. It has been successful although dating apps can be a pretty horrible experience for everyone, perhaps especially guys. And they are proven to be negatively impacting dating. That said, even if commercials suck to do every company still does them. Dating apps suck, but they remain used for a reason.21 Reply- 1 y
I used dating apps the day or days after I turned 18 😋🙃
Most of my relationships resulted from using dating apps. It’s better than nothing.
pros: it’s easier to find someone you’re attracted to, more options to choose from. For men, don’t have to be nervous and fear rejection face to face. You can just go on one date, if you don’t like them you won’t have to see them again.
cons: the app is just one click away if you aren’t satisfied with your current partner. That means instead of working things out people just go back on the app to look for somebody better. It can be dangerous as you’re meeting a stranger, you don’t know their history.

There is no shame in using one, but to answer the question, I have not really used one, I did start to use one in I think 2018 but didn’t complete setting up my info and then never checked it. The reason I have not really used one is that I have been in a relationship since then it started about the time I was going to try out the dating app. I have friends who have used them including two friends who are in LTRs that started that way, but also a lot who it didn’t work for.

u 1 yI have used dating apps consistently for the past 20 years, whenever I was not in a relationship and looking for a dating partner. I have used match, POF, bumble, zoosk, and a few church based sites. I did meet a few women who had lied about themselves in their profile, but most were honest and candid in what they wrote about themselves. I met some very high quality women on those sites, and I am now married to a woman I met on zoosk.

1 yI have, and NOPE, it was NOT successful in the slightest! It was either a bunch of scammers, or a bunch of people who matched with me but didn't even reply, or for the few "real" people I got and messaged me more than once: we basically had absolutely nothing in common and our "friendship" barely lasted at all.
All in all, a HUUUUUGE waste of time for me. At least I got to see what it was like, but holy shit, it was rough to see how much time I wasted on that shit...
10 Reply2.1K opinions shared on Dating topic. During Covid the apps were an absolute dream
We were eating good and didn’t even appreciate it
These days my profile doesn’t measure up much anymore.
I need better photos and never have time or a halfway decent camera man
I owe a lot of memories and lessons learned to dating apps
But of course they are just one way of meeting potential romantic partners.
The common theme remains “you” and your willingness to proactively socialize10 Reply
1 ySo many since I hit 18 in early 2012.
Spoken like a poem, from Tinder to Bumble, from OkCupid to Plenty of Fish (POF). From eHarmony to any other app requiring a left swish or right swish. In the end, I'm still single, I didn't get, my lover for a wish 😀☯️ ha!
10 ReplyThat's how I lost my virginity. I highly advise you to ignore them even more so if you want something long term. They're basically red flag search engines. The only people you're going to find there want your body and not much else.

@OlderAndWiser Ok yea nice graph of random people who were interviewed too bad most of them are full of shit. Dating apps are ghost towns there are as many bots as people, further let's say these numbers are all accurate then tell me why marriage rates are lower than ever? Why have there never been more singles than there are now in America? Why is the birthrate in the toilet? If dating apps really worked and helped shouldn't those numbers have gone up? Here's why they didn't. Finding a girlfriend or boyfriend isn't the same as finding a partner. They are very different things. Yea tons of people are matching on tinder and fucking each other's brains out saying they're in a relationship but these days, but they aren't. People don't even know what love they is anymore they just fuck people and tell themselves they're in a relationship and its bullshit. You are the exception you got married. If I can get laid on tinder anyone can find somebody on there but finding someone and really "being with someone" are completely different things.
I have but they’re so extremely bad.
You also can’t use them in my city because you’ll have connections with them somehow because everyone knows everyone somehow 🙄 small town joys lol10 Reply- 1.2K opinions shared on Dating topic.
1 yI used them in the early days of dating apps when they were just invented. Went on several dates and enjoyed them, but all the serious relationships I've had in my life came from meeting someone in person.
10 Reply 2K opinions shared on Dating topic. Closest to it was this app, it was very successful but rare. People aren't on here to date, so very little dating actually happens.
10 ReplyI think about it. But haven't yet.
I'm not comfortable with my face pic being all over the internet where my employer can find it.

1 yYeah, I still hope on Tinder every now and again.. I've at least met some people off the apps, including my ex. So I guess it was sort of a success..
10 Reply No I never have used a dating app, but I have been thinking of doing so in the last few weeks.
10 ReplyNever used one. Even when I was of a dating age (years ago) I would prefer more conventional means.
