Why Would a Girl Unfollow and Remove Someone on Instagram?

Last semester at university, I was very close with someone from my class. We got along extremely well, spent a lot of time together, and had long conversations for hours. However, without any argument or conflict, she suddenly unfollowed me on Instagram during the second week of this semester. She didn't unfollow anyone else just me.

Do you think this was an emotional reaction, or did she completely lose interest? What could be the most likely reason for a girl to do something like this? Could she have been expecting something from me, and my inaction triggered it?

Actually, the issue is not just about unfollowing. That’s only a part of the bigger picture. She was someone I used to talk to every day, spend time with, and be close to. But suddenly, she started acting completely distant and even unfollowed me.

So, it’s not just about "following''I’m trying to understand the meaning behind this change in behavior.

If she made such a drastic shift, could there be some resentment or another reason behind it? Is she expecting me to do something or take a step? Because if she liked me and was waiting for me to make a move based on our closeness last semester, but I never did because I was too shy, could this be an emotional reaction?

During the break, I sent her a very superficial message just asking about her grades, and I wonder if she reacted negatively to that message.
