Veteran Dating?

I had this date back in December. This guy was a military man now a veteran. He left his wife because she was lazy and depressed. There was no more details about why she was in that frame of mind. He told me really sad things like about his cancer and his mom had past last year. This made my heart ache for him of course. He mentioned that he was a vet and was discharged from the military due to the cancer. Then he revealed some real hard truths. He had emotion episodes and would drain his bank account ( mind you I was a banker at the time of this date.) , bursts of anger , bipolar and said he can only work four hours a day but also mentioned he wanted to be an actor and would be able to act all day for that. If he met someone , such as a spouse she would have to be the provider and have kids. Thing is I really liked this guy but I just couldn't deal with all the expectations and life events. I broke it off with him after the first date over text because there was no moving forward after that. I've been so down about dating and meeting anyone else ever since.

Veteran here. Don’t be down about it. He sounds like he had some service connected issues (like PTSD), which is unfortunate. I hope and pray he gets help, but you dodged a bullet. I’m speaking as a fellow veteran, if he has mental health issues he needs to straighten that out and get help before he dates someone. Some cases of combat related PTSD (but not all) can also cause bouts of violence. In that case he definitely needs help. You’re still young, you can find someone else.

Thank you for your advice. He mentioned that he was on some medication but decided to stop taking it due to the side effects. I wasn't sure what to think about that.
