Never ever argue about this. You don't owe him or anyone an explanation. It's over. Stop engaging. Block him on your phone and social media. If you have to see him in person, be cordial but very cool. Don't enter into conversation.

You have no obligation to try to prevent their disappointment. If he's a relative stranger, your goal should be to get him to go away without anger. You can tell him anything you like, true or not.

Best not to make it about him in any way.

If it's an acquaintance, then just be vague "That's sweet, but I don't think it would work." Don't give them any additional explanation. Just keep repeating "It's just a feeling, I can't explain it." If they persist, then you'll have to be more assertive "You asked, I answered. I'm not going to say more."

I would just tell him that you appreciated the dates and thank him, and you wish him well, but that you didn't feel it was a good match and don't want to pursue the relationship any further.

You can't be any more honest or respectful than that. It's going to feel like a rejection to him so it will hurt. But that can't be avoided. All you can do is the best you can.
