As a retired first responder myself? Hell no. Absolute predators who love power.

When I was working as a fire medic, I saw many firefighters ask EMS crews who the young new women are and whether or not they are "easy". Same thing whenever we brought a patient to the hospital, asking the nurses. Nursing school is notorious for being a child support payment factory. When I see a crew of 8 people for one medical call, I see a waste of taxpayer money. You don't need to bring an engine and a ladder truck out for the majority of calls.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate what they do. But I have absolutely no respect for them, especially what the IAFF has done to EMS. Fighting against making paramedic a bachelors program because most fire medics won't be able to pass. Fighting against more EMS oriented protocols in favor of increasing their own call volume since the average firefighter will maybe see 2 brush fires a year and 1-2 structure fires in their career.

There're still good people in the first responder world for sure. But the predatory culture and the complacency are often overlooked because it's essential work.
