I've done both. It just depends on how things go. I don't think it ultimately matters. It's less of the "getting to know you" part if you already know the person. I don't think this matters though. I think both are equally likely to be successful relationships. It depends on the people.

He wanted to pursue me in college but I was into someone else at the time. He eventually got over me for a time but I started having feelings for him and then I confessed my feelings for him and he started having feelings for me again and that's how we got together.
