i can't figure out how it is women of a certain type (not that hot) think I'm super hot, worth dropping their panties for on the first date, and then other women seem totally aloof

It's not a matter of attracting a partner, it's about showing that you're confident and capable.

Looks in the sense that you're kempt and having a confident posture. You don't necessarily have to look the best, but you stack the odds in your favor by being clean and dressing well. The better in shape you are, the better you look in your clothes. But being in shape is a long term commitment. All you really can get is 1-2 minutes at most to make a full impression; so maximize it.

Second is how good are you at keeping people's attention? In the 1 minute you have, can you get someone to give a damn about what you have to say. If you can do that, you bought yourself possibly an extra minute. If it goes well, it's a conversation.

You should take care of your looks
Make as much money as you need to be comfortable
And have a certain status as more than a doormat

But you can do all that and still flame out with women

The only thing that can get you over that huddle is your perceived attractiveness and sexual market value.

Meaning through the things you say the tone in which you speak and the ideas you propose you can create a story of adventure and fun and romance and laughter….

When you do that the woman will want more and more of it.
By extension more and more of you

1. Don't compliment them so much. Just stop and think about it. Put yourself in a hot girl's shoes. How much do you get compliments every day, even from the most handsome and popular guys you've learned to shrug off? How annoying is that? What are you looking for exactly?

2. Master #1 and you get hot girls easily. It's not even that hard because almost nobody masters #1. They try to and they still have metaphorical drool on the side on their mouth.

You don't even need to be rich. I dated a fashion model while I was barely able to pay rent in my 20s. The one thing I did differently is that I wasn't getting in the metaphorical line to talk to her. Just chill on the sidelines and talk to women like a real person.

Looks money status - in the sense of stable life, stable employment and decent healthy slim looks & that's what really any decent woman wants.
