Why are people so dumb as to believe some random website on the internet as gospel?

This woman on a dating site looked my number up, and said
"I was looking forward to our chat today, but when I saved your number to my phone, I did a quick search (got to be safe!!), and it says that you’re married.

I wish you well, but I’m not comfortable continuing. Take care and all the best."

IMMEDIATELY blocked me. Guess I dodged a bullet if she is going to just make an assumption off some sketchy internet site. Not married, NEVER have been married. I think sometimes these moronic sites confuse me and my father (who we don't even talk to anymore), his name is similar.. and he's not even married to my mother now, so it's wrong in multiple ways.

In general, it comes from a lack of critical thought. People aren't taught how to think critically, and it rears its ugly head in many aspects of life.

In your particular situation, the problem is made worse by the fact that you're dealing with a woman on a dating site. This is someone who is both actively looking for reasons to conclude that you're not worth investing her time into, and she benefits from drawing hasty conclusions because meeting you puts her safety at risk. She might even have bad prior experiences where gave the wrong guy the benefit of her doubt and got screwed over for it.

Women like that also tend to have this HILARIOUS idea that they all have these razor-sharp, infallible instincts in reading people. I'm really not sure where it comes from, because being hyper reactive to the smallest things seem to be responsible for all the biggest social fuck ups.

In any event, I would be thankful that this person showed her hand to you sooner than later.
