I have been before by another guy, and it was uncomfortable due to the comments made and the fact that he tried to cop a feel. I would have been flattered had it just been an innocent compliment or just asking for my number (even though I'm straight). Has anyone else experienced this before and how did you react?

Sure. Plenty of times.

Its fine? Most of the time it is playful or in good spirit, while you might not be in the mood there's no ill intent.

Other times, as frightening as someone shouting an unwanted compliment at you is, if that is all they do its not so bad.

Now when that becomes physical unwanted advances, it is a lot worse. I can understand the fear of escalation.
