Why do people think all men are the same?

I feel like men, just like women, can be categorized into specific personality types. Not like MBTI, but things like power hungry alpha males that try to dominate conversations and can't stand being outdone by anyone. Or the awkward, introverted gamer guy who watches anime and manga and rarely interacts with women. Or metalheads that grow their hair out as long as they can, etc.

There are so many different personality types, but there are certain personality types that tend to take up larger parts of the population. For example, I see a lot of guys who love cars and love a specific sport that don't have much depth to conversation.

Just like the opposite question that's currently posted, I'd say most people don't think that, and those that do are operating on (presumably negative) prejudices.

I will say that women do sometimes talk about men this way, though usually in the context of hyperbolic venting. That vast majority of women don't actually think this way in practice though.

I think it's also easier to view a group as homogenous when you're seeing them through the lens of like, the internet because of the whole echo chamber/algorithm thing. Interacting with people irl tends to disprove those ideas pretty fast.

Well I can tell you not all men are the same. In fact no man is exactly the same. Now I get people who claim to be different are red flags…

But not all women are the same either.

Because they tend to attract the same type of men and think all guys are the same.

Tends to be the same with Incels too…. Sometimes their choice in the opposite sex… as well as just whose willing to pick them is thin.

They will attract drama kings and queens because someone whose not dramatic and has self respect won’t put up with it.

It’s like if all someone has to offer is sex. They’re going to get men for instance who are only wanting….

Whether that be men who will bend over backwards and genuinely just dishonor themselves to get sex.

More often than not it is just language profligacy.
I mean they don't necessarily mean "all men" but they phrase it as though it were because they're lazy and don't really care to be specific.

That. As well as I think many men and women just assume the entire opposite sex thinks exactly the way they do.

Notice that with users here who tend to be on the narcissistic personality spectrum (narcissists always disagree) tend to have delusions of grandeur. They genuinely believe they speak for all men and women

I don't think any disorder is needed to disagree... people in general like to disagree and don't like it when others disagree with them :D

it's also common to project our opinion, preferences and anxieties on others... :D

I think there are different types of men you run into in different zones. And I think its easy to generalize when you play in the same zone for long enough

People generalize to cope or they lack understanding. If one whole gender isn't the issue in their mind then they have to admit to themselves that they are the issue.

Men have their tendencies, same as women have their tendencies. That doesn't make all of them alike though.
