Worse one day before: she had time to decide and it means a plain no
Worse directly at the request: she gives no possibility at all

My guess is that it is worse if she (or he) cancels a date after having confirmed it initially.
At least if she does not accept the request, you know what to expect while if the person confirms the date first and then cancels it shortly before the day of the date, it is like a double slap in the face.
You are all happy thinking that you may get into her pants and have plans on how to hit on her and then suddenly, those fantasies are shattered. If the date is not accepted in the first place, you don't have time to make plans and it is not that bad in my opinion.
One day before. Very rarely (like almost never) is a woman going to cancel at the last minute. If she tells she needs to cancel at the last minute, it a veritable lock that she knew she was going to do it all along. Accept whatever excuse she feeds you, then cut her off completely. Let her play her games with some other schmuck.
Pretty sure the last minute cancellation is the worse
You already cleared out your schedule, made plans, etc
Being turned down on request is an inconvenience for about two seconds

Cancels the day before unless she had a good reason
Cancelling one day before.
The first one obviously.
When she stands you up.
