Why would a man in the military text me pretty much every day for two years straight after sleeping together once?

He left my country as he was sent elsewhere for 3 years. We took it for what it was, but he continued to stay in touch daily for the most part. Until he’d see someone where he was, then would always come back to contacting me every day for a long time. I’ve never dated someone in the military so I’ve no idea what that means really. Any ideas? Was I like the one that got away or something else?
