If this were 100 years ago then you'd have a point.
These days people can get fat on the cheap. That is probably why it isn't as popular now as it used to be.
Then again, as far as I'm concerned, there is still something grossly unpleasant and unnerving about skinny or "athletic" people. They look like skeletons with skin on.
