Do you think more men or women are likely to break the ice when approaching someone they like for the first time?

Men do but, I have no problem walking up to a man. However if I approach you, I'm approaching you as a friend or just trying to give you a compliment.
I don't approach men to flirt or date, if they found me attractive, they would of approached.
If they're scared to approach, then they're not the right guy for me.
Now some men approach after I walked away from them. Depending on why I approached him, I might entertain him a little longer.

Ya I agree if a woman give me a compliment and I like them it would be easier for me to keep it going then just approaching but if you don't try it won't happen

Women can give more subtle signs they are into a guy so he will get warmed up before daring to try to make the first move. So if you look at it like that I think women are then the ones making the first move.

Ya I get that women like the fact that someone wants them but I think men like that feeling of being wanted too but I would guess 70%plus

@dwreborn Finally someone this weekend asking the real big questions - ❓ so sure, I'll bite and answer - I for one would love to approach women, I'm not a George from Seinfeld who "doesn't talk to strange women" quote from the Opposite titled episode. However - I for one have my legitimate reasons for not approaching - a) I have no interest in marriage or offspring and b) I've still not gotten around to a long drawn out procedure known as circumcision which usually affects some 1 in however many men with phimosis. I got my formal diagnosis from a general practitioner in 2025, yet I also had an earlier such opinion from a surgeon back in 2019 during a consult, and then Covid/coronavirus happened in 2020, so you know, delays delays delays is a lot like anyone in life having a To Do List but you know how life is, it's always a fun and never boring rollercoaster 🎢🎢 so you know. It is what it is - that said, no I have no qualms asking women out - not even really hot women + the worst I could ever be told is no, no thank you, or just plain smiled at and told "in your dreams buddy" 😗🙃😁 or "I have a boyfriend already" or even more unexpected "I have a girlfriend already" says said hot random woman I may ask out - lol 👀👀 go figure.

@dwreborn usually both genders are confident - I have shyness, yet I'm not shy to ask a woman out. Like I said, still have my ongoing phimosis condition + recovery time whenever and if ever I get around to the surgical waiting lists 🏥🏥🥼

I might guess more men but that’s just a gut reaction , with the lived experience I have and conversations with the opposite sex but I’m sure there may be exceptions.
That being said , I’ve rarely approached a woman without first making eye contact looking for my cue. Women often , and sometimes unintentionally can give signals that they are open to be approached, sometimes guys don’t look for the signal or fail to read or understand body language. Men are also especially susceptible to misreading an innocent icebreaker as an advance or flirtation.

Men still carry the burden of approaching women most of the time. I'm gonna say 80% of the time. I'm an exception. I seldom try to chat up women. I get hit on 3-5 times a night when I go out. I don't really need to make much effort. Unless the woman I'm interested in isn't one of the ones trying to get me to talk.
