What’s negging all about? I mean, how can someone actually think that insulting somebody could help their relationship with them? It sounds absurd, but maybe it actually works?

It used to work because it goes against the grain


A girl walks in and she’s expecting everyone to bow down and compliment her and in comes this self confident guy who bows down to no one and instead of a compliment he calls her out on something or dismisses her opinion


Now she’s insulted but also motivated to prove him wrong and get his approval.
And when she tries hard enough he gives it to her in a moment of manufactured thunder


So she sleeps with him.


The reason it stopped working is because times themselves have changed.
The new generation doesn’t bow down and shower women with compliments.
So walking in hopping your “neg” will work is laughable.
You just come off as a douche, not worth the time.


Negging was made famous by Neil Strauss in his book “The Game” where he talks about his time as a student of a PUA magician called Mystery.
The book was a best seller and many guys adopted the convoluted tropes if seduction it suggested

But I would argue that these days there are more guys who know this makes them SIMPS.
The word itself becomes so famous is proof of the general mentality shift

But we do agree things aren’t what they used to be

And it’s not a bad thing. At least it got us rid of negging

Negging is when someone gives backhanded compliments or subtle insults to lower another person’s confidence and make them seek approval. It’s a manipulative tactic, not real flirting. While it might grab short-term attention, it almost always damages trust and respect in the long run.

Some people get turned on by being degraded and then told that they are loved. I think of it as a sign of the type of relationship where a person stays when they shouldn't because they believe that they can't get anyone better, in other words they're so worthless that nobody but their current SO could love them.

From what I’ve read, it’s a way to get girls to try harder to interact with a guy. If a guy comes up to a stranger and only gives her compliments she’s likely to think he’s lying or has ulterior motives. But if he negs her it’s a subtle way to pick on an insecurity she may feel and it’s meant to cause her to “defend herself” and want to prove to him it’s not true

Negging is designed to make the girl self-conscious in an attempt to manipulate her into seeking the guy's approval. It is an old PUA method.
