Do you know what 'negging' is? has anyone ever done this to you? What do you think of it generally?

Negging is an act of emotional manipulation whereby a person makes a deliberate backhanded compliment or otherwise flirtatious remark to another person to undermine their confidence and attempt to engender in them a need for the manipulator's approval. The term was coined and prescribed by pickup artists. some examples below:

I like to use negging to flirt. it works for me.

I've been negged plenty of times and the person who negged me blamed ME for being insecure when it was their constant negging that made me feel insecure in the first place.
I wasn't insecure about any of the things they made me feel insecure about until they came around, and I haven't been insecure about those things since I cut that person off. 🤷‍♀️

I didn't know what "negging" was but that definitely happened to me. I knew that something didn't sound right but I didn't have a name for it.

I've had that coming from "family" members and teachers when I was in school.

Man, only in the internet age. 75 years ago, if you complimented a woman, she saw it as friendly and if you insulted her, she saw it as hostile (and usually slapped you and/or walked away)

I find it stupid and transparently obvious to most women. Not sure if it has ever been used on me, as I would jettison anyone who starts out being negative.
