How would you handle this situation?

So I went on a date with an amazing guy. Personality wise he is a 10/10.. However his teeth are horrible. To the point they are crooked, yellow/brown/unevan.. I've never seen anything like it.. He says he doesn't smoke but it looks like he has.

Now personality is more important but hygiene (dental work) is important too.. Im not saying he needs a hollywood smile but now his mouth is so crowded and infected... its a hygiene issue.

I myself had my teeth done is that something I should tell him?

Tell him you got your own teeth done

Tell him straight up he should fix his teeth

You can't do anything..

I mean… you can’t MAKE the guy change if he likes the way he is…. But you should know that it could be a sign of serious cardiac issues. Honestly I wouldn’t bother too much with the guy bc sounds like you DID bring it up already and he made the excuse that he’s not a smoker… but he’s actively unhealthy and that’s not something you should have to explain to a grown man.

Thats the weird thing. He is very healthy. He competes in a sport so he works our 3 times/day 6 days/week. He doesn't smoke or drink..

You can try talking to him. There's medications taken in childhood and even pregnancy that can cause otherwise perfectly healthy teeth to be discoloured. My son has several yellow deciduous teeth because of medication my wife needed in pregnancy. They look odd, and if his permanent teeth have the same issue we'll get them veneered so he doesn't have issues growing up.

I have some issues - my jaw was too small as a teenager AND my body made multiple duplicate teeth. I needed extractions and braces to straighten what I had left but it was so uncomfortable and aesthetic not functionally impaired so at 18 I quit the dental work and my teeth are more crooked than normal and prone to breaking. I have two crowns at the moment but two broken teeth that need crowning. When my wisdom teeth came through for 3 months I had jaw mobility of about half a centimetre - which made brushing agony so I used more Listerine than any normal person ever should.

So talk to him.

My son's dealing with bigger issues than yellow teeth. His mum died a year ago. Neither of us cares what colour his teeth are right now. He's only 7 so it'll be a while before it's an issue

I had crooked teeth till I was 26. It's not like my mother didn't want to get my teeth straightened when i was young. But I was terrified of the dentist and since my sister had a life threatening illness she didn't really have the money to do it anyways. So it wasn't till my mid twenties that I manned up and decided to do something about it. Turned out I had 9 cavities. But I have NEVER had a cavity since and I take care of my teeth now.

I'm not saying his story is mine. But I am saying you don't know his story.

Only you can answer that. I was sensitive about my teeth until I got braces.
If I were you I'd only ask if you're doing it in a positive way. Hell, use me and my story as an example if you want. Say, "have you ever thought about getting some orthodontic work? Say you know a guy (me) and then use my story. I regret that I went so many years with it and didn't need to. Mostly because of some bad experiences as a real young child. I had horrible baby teeth. I think my first time in dental chair was when I was 2. I think it scarred me for the rest of my childhood. So I had kind of an irrational fear.

So fun fact, yellow teeth is normal. Natural teeth color vary from person to person, from off white (bright white is not natural) to darker yellowish. The color is determined by the thickness of the enamel and dentin. Dentin is a layer within the tooth which is yellow. Can a tooth be yellow because of bad dental hygiene? Yes, if there’s plaque build up but usually it’s not the reason for yellow teeth. People seem to think white teeth is the normal and yellow teeth is dirty - not the case. It’s completely normal.

Telling him about your own dental work is unnecessary and can come across as bragging/pushy. Telling him to get dental work done is rude and inappropriate. If his present dental hygiene is a dealbreaker for you, then move on. You don’t need to wallow on it.

Expecting someone to fix something about themselves in order for you to date them is incredibly selfish. Health issue or not.

Being in a relationship with someone who then develops a health issue later on is much different than going on a single date with someone who has a feature that you don’t like.

Thats not true at all. Teeth is a health issue you should ask a dentist. It can evan cause death. Cause the infection spreads to organs/brain/Liver etc so its a serious health risk. Just like dating someone who weights 600 pounds of fat is serious health risk. But you do you..

You know that no matter how you turn it, it's going to sound rude, even if he kept smiling and made you feel that it's okay, just know that inside he'll feel hurt, put yourself in his place and a guy tells you this, how does it makes you feel?

On the other hand, it's your right to ask him about it because you like him but there's this problem which is holding you down...

When you feel comfortable with each other, try to ask him in a smart way, such as what are the things that you like about me and the things that you don't like? You start than i'll give my opinion about you, at this point it might look fair and not that rude 🤷🏻‍♂️

There's not really much you can do. If it's gotten to the point where he needs professional dental work that is incredibly expensive time consuming, painful and difficult. He just may not have the money for it it and if he doesn't he doesn't.

Good idea. Maybe it will help. A lot of people do not go to dentists because they've had bad experiences with dentists or as I've noted previously, they can't afford it or they are simply afraid of the pain that is usually involved. Unfortunately. Generally speaking, a visit to the dentist is a misery. It's just a question of how much misery and how long it lasts and how much it costs.
