Probably the same reason guys tend to like shorter girls more. I'm lucky. I'm 4'10" so most guys I meet are taller than me, even in 5 inch heels, lol. All jokes aside, I don't really care about height. In fact, it makes more sense for me to date someone average height or shorter. Now, if a tall man courted me, I wouldn't reject him solely because he's tall. Same way I wouldn't go out with him solely because he's tall. But when I was in college, there was this one guy who was like a building. I swear, he was at least 6'7" or 6'8." We sat next to each other and when we stood up to leave, his hips practically came up to my shoulders. He was very handsome and could have passed for a model. But standing next to him, I wasn't thinking  He's so tall and handsome and I wish he was mine!  I was thinking how he should be left for the really tall, 6'+, modelesque women who are taller than the majority of guys. Like I've mentioned before, tall women, like short men, also get the short end of the stick. But really, if I and all my 4'10" glory was with someone that tall, it would have looked pretty odd. Especially because I look very young for my age, anyways. I still get mistaken as 16-20 even though I'm 27. I would have look like his adopted little sister, lol. Anywho, not all women care about height. I actually saw this cute reel of a girl who claimed she would never date someone shorter than her and now she is having his baby. Also, if someone doesn't like you solely because of your height, they are clearly not the type of person you should want to be around, anyways.

Because they can spot them easier in a crowd? No but seriously I suppose it is status because it leans towards natural instincts someone else mentioned on here but enhanced such I think, the whole he can protect me/us. I am proberbly gonna sound old fashioned but we are after all animals who come from the jungle and as such if lets say you're a female, pregnant or having a baby to look after you can't bloody hell do both, the guys gotta look out for danger, protect you, therefor protecting his baby. How I think it was first design. If you got a tiny guy for a look out chances are greater unless he is smart or the two of you are smart together, that you and the baby are at greater risk. When natural instinct hit us it is as if we are not always ready for them and their simplicity and you don't think they always fit into a modern society, but it is what it is.

To women saying "we feel more secure" what happens if that guy dies in combat, or "protecting" you and you're left alone then what? You know if I thought like a guy and was open and honest. To any woman or girl reading this, this may sound harsh but I don't give a f***. I guess it's okay if a guy says a woman should have big natural breasts because having bigger boobs allows more nutrients for a baby for breast feeding. Oh, and by having bigger boobs I don't mean getting breast implants because as we know beauty is hidden in plastic surgery and make up and tight clothes for women these days. Women and girls have this stupid perception of she wants to feel "feminine", meanwhile in the 1960s women were more feminine then women today and yet more of them were married and less picky.

A lot of y'all women and girls have fathers under 5ft10. And before a girl reads this and wants to report my post or hate on me, that I am an angry incel raging on the female community. 1) Give me a break, there are women in the west who hate on Muslim girls wearing the hijab and being modest so where's the girl power togetherness BS? 2) The older I get the less I care about pursuing women because it's not worth it which means I can control my temptations and say f-sex. I'll die and with the hopes of going to heaven, i'll ask God for a beautiful wife in heaven.

We are products of evolutionary biology. Tall men tend to be bigger and stronger, which was advantageous for our ancestors. Women are attracted to men with advantages over others. Not just for their ability to produce and provide, but for their genetic gifts to their offspring. We are driven by the biological imperative to couple with the highest quality mates in order to ensure our offspring have more advantages. This increases the likelihood that our bloodlines prosper where lesser competitors fail. Failure for our ancestors typically meant death.
As a species, we are not nearly as evolved as many people want to believe.

Two reasons:

1. The average guy's height is taller than the average girl's. If a girl didn't like a taller guy, her pool of possible mates would be much less.

2. Girls are tired of having to use a step tool to reach those items high on the shelf. It's easier to ask the guy to do it.

But it all goes back to one thing and that's a sense of security. Historically, height was linked to strength and the ability to protect a partner and offspring. But also it's viewed as more masculine, perceived strength ( not actual strength ) Status and dominance.

We're all products of the past and all those instincts, the way we perceive things it all harkens back to our ancient past.

Men for example like women with wide child bearing hips because subconsciously it means she can have children more easily and in our ancient past creating a family with strong genetics and offspring was both an actual need and a desire. It's we we sought our women with specific features because it'd mean strong genetics, stronger offspring and more of them. So we find that feature desirable and attractive.

For women it's the exact same thing they look for features in the same way we men do based upon ancient instincts, needs, etc. Except for women the features they look for revolve around strength, dominance and protection.

Both but men and women have something in common and that is that we primarily look for partners with strong genetics. Because the strongest genetics create the strongest people/offspring.

Basically because it's the default. The conventionally attractive ideal is that men are tall and women are short. If the woman is especially tall it's still expected that the man is taller than her. If a man is especially short it's still expected that the woman is shorter than him.

Even without socialization it still makes sense because naturally men are taller than women and the other way around is less common. Even animals in nature tend to chase what is more common instead of less common.

Not saying I personally agree with all this. I don't. But that's the logic behind it.

A lot of girls naturally prefer taller guys for many reasons. Part of it is evolutionary height can feel protective and safe. Part of it is society teaching us that the man is usually taller in movies and relationships. Some girls also feel more feminine next to someone taller, and height can sometimes be associated with confidence. It makes sens that a man is physically taller and stronger. That is how physically a man should be with respect to a woman. Stronger and taller. It is how things are in this universe. You can imagine things to be the opposite in another universe, but unfortunately in this universe things are the way they are, and quite frankly I find nothing wrong with it! Yeah I'm 5'8 and I'm actually running into the problem with a lot of the women with heels on are taller than me. I do get overlooked because of my height but I'm 49 now and I'm good with only hook ups and no relationships. A lot of it comes down to instinct and social conditioning. Taller guys can feel more protective or confident, and that gives some women a sense of safety and attraction. But plenty of girls prioritize personality, effort, and emotional connection over height, height just gets attention faster, not loyalty.

Honestly it varies I’m very short and have dated taller women that got embarrassed to be seen in public with me. She admitted it and I appreciate the honesty. Even had girls that said height doesn’t matter reject me after finding out how tall I am because they want to date someone same or taller.
I recommend just stop thinking about it. It not worth your time to give someone your time and thoughts that has already decided not to give you there’s.
