I prefer to go some where cheaper to meet new people like a volunteering event, an alumni barbecue, a bible study etc..,
While that is what I would have done if I was single. Right now I am off the market.

Same as the places you mentioned, bars are places that people like to congregate. Bars have the added "advantage" that alcohol loosens inhibitions so it's easier to talk to new people.
That soo pretty cool you met really nice good people there in those places 🖤🥰

Well alumni events are few and far between for my school; I did meet some interesting people when I have been to them. Not a regular church-goer so that is out; the last time I went the median age was about 80 anyway. In my town there aren't a lot of places to meet people. There was a brewpub that was well-lit and very friendly but it shut down last year.
Because they think it's easier to meet new people in the bars, people there are usually relaxed and in a better mood.
But personally, I'd rather meet new people in the gym.
Because bars you could talk to strangers easily
To mingle.
