In the initial stages? Beware of love bombing -- this is a HUGE RED FLAG. Complaints about others at work or school or otherwise. Talk about women he's previously dated. Excessive drinking or other addictions. A general lack of goals or effort to move forward. Lack of care for himself or his belongings. Lack of consideration for himself, you, or others. Also be very wary of an older man, meaning about 28 or older, who hits on you. Most often these men are hitting on very young women because they are rejected by women closer to their own age.

If you are dating someone that your friends don't like, think hard about their reasons as they may be seeing something that you are either not seeing. Same for your parents if they have a good relationship with each other and with you. Mentally healthy people will be happy for you to have met someone -- if they are not, they are seeing you tolerating something that should be intolerable.
