I think a background check makes it pretty clinical and destroys all mystery and the fun of discovering the other person. So I wouldn't go there. I'd rather depend on my own ability to judge someone based on the way they interact with me.

On the other hand, I can see where someone with fears and insecurities or a history of bad decisions may want to have assurances and peace of mind up front. But a background check will not answer all your questions. It may point out major red flags like, constant job hopping, DUI's, arrests, multiple divorces, education.

I always do a background check, and I know that some have done the same to me.

I check court records, Google them to see what comes up.

I've had one who were were talking to on line show up at one of my businesses to make sure I wasn't lying.

She told me after a while.

She came in with a friend, I never recognized her, since I had only seen 1 picture of it.

I was fine with that.

Its really a good thing to know, you just can't be too careful these days, especially for women.

If you are dating to find a marriage partner, then YES! It could help you avoid making a big mistake by alerting you to red flags BEFORE you get emotionally involved with the person. Avoids a lot of potential pain.
