What are signs someone has been faking who they are the whole time?

Aaah, my love, people wear masks all the time. The masks aren't always scary like on Halloween. Sometimes they're the "public face" we all see on social media or in the workplace. But if you're with someone 24/7 the masks ultimately slips, you see the cracks in the person's armor, and if they take the mask off completely for you they're trusting you with that.

So the question is really what you mean by "fake" bc none of us is just out there fully 100% vulnerable all day every day.

• If you mean something nasty and abusive, that's not to be tolerated.
• If you mean cheating or a history of drugs, alcoholism, etc. etc. that's also not to be tolerated.
• If you mean they use "salty" language outside the office, that's negotiable.
• If you mean they're letting you see their low moments... well honey that's what you do for people you care about. You show each other your vulnerabilities.

They seem to have no hobbies or interests of their own; they simply adopt yours with intense passion the moment they meet you. Such behaviour is one red flag.

But that’s not true.
Most people are multifaceted.
Who we are changes based on where we are and we’re doing


No one can “fake” who they are. But some people can wear a different mask based on the occasion
Doesn’t mean it’s a false mask. Because every face is a mask so there is no single “real” one.


It’s much more important to detect people who lie to you and make false claims
People of weak character is a lot more dangerous than ones with many faces

Being around someone long enough you’ll see the cracks. You may notice they get you to open up…. But don’t open up mucn themselves. Maybe they tell you things here and there.

You see cracks. You’re around then for long periods of time and they don’t act the same. Maybe they even become very mean.

One good way to spot an inauthentic person is to flat-out ask them, "Are you an authentic person?"

An inauthentic person will IMMEDIATELY respond that, Yes, I'm a very authentic person.

A genuinely authentic person will have to stop and think about it for a moment. They'll have to do a little reflecting, a little quick introspection. Because it's hard to know what that even means sometimes. And their answer won't necessarily be Yes. because they're trying to give you an honest answer.

Now, if an inauthentic person knows this trick, then they'll know to pause, and the trick won't work.

over time you will be able to tell, things might not be adding up, or the stories change.
It is hard to keep lies going for a long time.
Plus, it is easy to find things out about someone on the internet.
I always did that before I went on a date, it's pretty easy to do, check the court records to see if anything comes up, I had 1 girl actually come to the station with her friend to make sure I was who I said I was.
I didn't really remember it, at that point we were still in the talking stage, so I had no clue what she looked like, and we have people stopping by on a fairly regular basis, dropping of goodies, thanking us, kids wanting to look around so I never paid any attention to it.
It is not hard to check the roster online and it has our bios listed as well.
I was fine with it, and I really can't blame someone for being careful.

An unusual amount of privacy, covering up old connections, and withholding information when things get deep.

I do hide some things from most people but once things become serious, I let myself be seen for the good and bad, cause eventually, they'll figure out who I am and realize I was dishonest at first by not telling them about my past.

So it's better for me to get it out of the way early, save us both time and pain if it's too much for her early on
