it's kinda important to me. i wouldn't date someone with low intelligence and especially not if they would be 'challenged'. average intelligence is completely fine obviously, and high is pretty good. i think most people think the same thing.

as for why, intelligence really influences the quality of the relationship especially for the entertainement side and the level of peace/drama. ie someone who's not even average intelligence, would probably be pretty boring (like what do you talk about with them?) , have poor emotional regulation and can't read the air well. it would probably be irritating. if they're not just slow but handicapped, it would be basically caregiving at that point. besides, it's not very desirable to have children with them, since iq is inheritable. it's very hard to have a good life with an intellectual deficit. if on the contrary someone is smart, the relationship will be much richer, they would have a lot more to say, i could learn things from them, they'd be funnier (it's related) and be better company, they would be better at managing themselves, they'd be more emotionally intelligent and probably a better partner, and obviously our kids would have a higher iq.

in my opinion the IQs and EQs BOTH need to be relatively compatible. This doesn't mean they have to be the same. For example, some "very high IQ" people need someone with a higher EQ than they have (and vice versa). Meanwhile, some with "very low IQ" need people with the combination of smarts and patience to deal with them.

Most folks fall somewhere in the middle, so they need someone else who is in the middle with them.

It’s somewhat important. I won’t commit to an idiot, but you don’t have to be a genius to hold up your end of a conversation. There are other matters of compatibility that are much more important.

For women I think it’s important because women usually want a man who makes more money than them, who leads, who provides and so on. That usually requires intelligence. On the other hand most men don’t really care about intelligence, it’s not on our priority list. Looks usually come first, then her personality. That’s not to say we want a complete idiot of a partner, but as long as she’s not a complete idiot, who’s remind who wants a family, marriage, children. That’s usually what men look at.

It's all relative. If you are within 2 standard deviations of your perspective partner you'll probably be OK if you have other things going for you. Any greater gap than that and you probably have no chance. The good news for low IQ people is that most people are average, so you will probably have a lot of options.

IQ has a mean of 100 points and a standard deviation of 15 point. So 70+(2*15) = 100. I'm sure there are some average people dating borderline retarded people. That wouldn't work for me, but it's been known to happen.

Like I said if you are within 2 standard standard deviation of a person it tends to work for a lot of people. I have an IQ of 158 so add or subtract 30 points from that and you get a range of 128-188. I'd say that's a reasonable range for mental compatibility, but not so realistic statistically in finding a match. The more extreme your IQ in any direction, the more flexible you'll have to be. When people have an IQ of 125+ I generally feel more comfortable talking to them about most things on my mind. I can get along with people that are average or slightly under average but they say a lot of retarded shit and I keep a lot of things to myself because they just don't understand and I have to dumb things down too much to be meaningful, so that can stifle communication which isn't great for lasting relationships.

Even people that have an IQ of 130-135 a lot of times can't understand and don't even want to understand some of the things I say when in my mind it seems pretty basic and I believe they can understand it if they want to, but I guess it's too much for them sometimes.

I'd never measure her IQ, and IQ is just a broad general idea of learning ability which does not at all determine intelligence.

People like Will Smith are supposed geniuses but he acts about as intelligently as a bag of rocks.

Who she is, how she makes me feel and physical traits are important, measuring IQ isn't. I'd feel her out and if we like eachother, I'd proceed
