If he just recently learned a way to accept how he looks and is finally willing to get over approach anxiety at 32. The reason why I have no experience is because of avoiding showing interest. I avoided showing interest because I thought I was ugly and worried about being creepy. I just care about how other people feel but I now understand that its vibes and not looks.

You're explaining already to yourself what you did and why, I'd say that's 50% of the job, the other 50% left is your capacity to find people who will relate, or at least understand these decisions you made.
