I can’t personally tell someone’s height down to the number, but I feel like I can at least tell what range they would fall in.

A range is what you make it. By definition it is simply a boundary set between a minimum and maximum value. For me, I’d say there’s 3 ranges: under 5’5, between 5’6 to 5’11, then 6ft and up. I’m 5’6 1/2, so if a guy is shorter than me, I know what range he falls into. Same goes for if he’s just a bit taller than me but not to the point he can put his arm around my shoulder, I’d say that’s like 5’8-5’9. Then I’ve got the personal cheat code in the form of every man in my family being over 6ft, and I’ve been out and about with them my whole life. If guys are shorter or taller than them, that gives me an idea of where the guy could fall when it came to height.

But as said in the comments already, wanting height is wanting a range, not a fixed number, that would be odd to think otherwise.

No one gets a measuring stick out to make sure they're exact. If they "look" 6 feet, then they can tell it's good enough
