What does it mean when a guy always has a girlfriend?

That was me.

Beginning at age 16, I had long-term, infatuated, monogamous relationships. But I didn't want to get married or have kids. When the infatuation eventually wore off and I realized that I didn't want to be with that girl for the rest of my life, I would find a new girlfriend and move on. I never cheated when I was with them.

It wasn't until my early 30s that I started thinking about beginning a new chapter in my life and settling down with a life-long partner.

I had a couple more long term girlfriends but they wouldn't have worked out for the long haul.

I figured that marriage would be the most important decision of my life because it was forever and there were no do overs.

I finally met my future wife when I was 40. She is 2.5 years younger. Both of us had lived full and fulfilling lives. We had both had relationships but had never been married or had kids.
After a year, I knew she was the one who would be loyal through thick and thin. We had similar values and she took marriage as seriously as did I.
I proposed and we got married a year later.

We have been happily married now for almost 30 years, had a LOT of fun and built a wonderful life together.

But that time is when most people find out all they need to know about a person and can make a valid choice to be or not remain with them. So one or two years isn't long term.

Obviously some guys aren't content with just having one girlfriend so they like sleeping with or dating other girls as well. I had a guy mate that was exactly like this he always had more then one

I have had a girlfriend or now wife ever since I was 14 except for some months at a time which totals up to less than a year total since then. I don’t know what it means other than that is how I lived my life. Any questions?
