He sent a kind rejection text but his birthday is coming up—should I reach out?

I went out on a first date with a guy l met online he was more interested to meet up and i didn’t expect to like him that much but i found him very attractive, soft spoken and smart on the date. 2 days after the date he sent me the most mature and well written text message rejecting me. During the date he had mentioned his birthday which is in a week or so and I want to send him a hbd message. what do I do? Do i wish him a happy birthday? Will it come off as desperate/creepy from someone he has met only once? I really want a second date with him :(

I wouldn’t because you aren’t just sending a Happy Birthday to a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while. You’re sending it to a guy who despite rejecting you, you still want to have a shot with. You’re sending it in hopes that it makes him think differently, see you in another light, it is ultimately a desperate attempt to re-open the door, in my opinion. If you really want to send it, then go into that recognizing that this will likely not receive the response you want, and be ok with it ahead of time.

You can send him a happy birthday message but just be neutral and do not put any emotions in it.

It should be just a friendly message and nothing more. Do not give him the impression that you are needy or want something from him.
