How pretentious do you consider yourself to be?

A I guess when it comes to certain things.

Like for example, food:

I cook very intentionally. I've had some nice wines and liquors and dinners at Michelin star restaurants where a sommelier comes out and explaines why he felt the terrior of Argentina during the summer months paired so we'll with wherever the fish came from. And I will sit there tasting the two together disagreeing with his choice and reasoning after carefully trying to understand what he must be tasting. And coming to the conclusion there is something wrong with this person because he should know better... Or worse, he didn't know what the fish tasted like in the first place and only went off ingredients. Ewww

And in the same day I have no problem scarfing down a cheeseburger from McDonald's the night before.

I will knock back half a sleeve of Shin noodles in an evening because I'm bindge watching trashy YouTube videos.

But I got into an argument with my brother earlier today about cutting onions into rings vs diced when raw and on a burger 😂

We had a probably 10 minute conversation that ended with me feeling a little disgusted that he prefers the wrong prep type for raw onions on a burger.

I still mostly love him so I guess I'm only a little pretentious.

I’d describe my level of pretentiousness as low. I appreciate quality, craftsmanship, and things that are well made, but I enjoy them for what they are rather than for the status they bring.

I value knowledge, effort, and competence, but I don’t judge people by their job, income, or possessions. I have strong opinions and enjoy challenging ideas, but my aim is usually understanding rather than proving I’m right.

I like good things, I enjoy a bit of humour and sarcasm, and I have standards—but I don’t believe that makes me better than anyone else.

There are times I admit I can be arrogant and know-it-all-like, especially when it comes to topics I think I have more knowledge than the average person about, or have looked into extensively.

But I think I'm the opposite of pretentious. I have pretty low confidence, due to where I am in life and usually put others on a pedestal, even if I'm the pedestal. I'd actually say I'm more on the humble side.

I try not to be, but I grew up as a spoiled only child in Newport Beach so I am somewhat. Thankfully I have great friends who call me out when I get that way.
