Guys, why ask for a girl's Instagram if you’re not going to message her?

I don’t understand what happened here. I matched with this guy on a dating app, and we’d been talking for a bit when he asked for my Instagram. I gave it to him, and he immediately sent me a follow request. We both followed each other, and then… boom. Silence. No message, nothing.

I honestly feel like an idiot for giving him my Instagram only for him to not message me at all. I don’t know if I did the right thing or the stupidest thing, but I don’t usually do this. After a couple of hours, I decided to send him a simple “Hey,” because I thought, why the eff not?

lol no response.

I’d love to hear a guy’s perspective on this. Why would you ask for a girl’s Instagram if you weren’t going to continue the conversation there? Am I overthinking this, or is this usually a sign he’s no longer interested?
