Oh, that means I'm cheap? Unromantic? No it doesn't. I can easily afford it, but you don't that. However, now I know a LOT more about you and what you think you're entitled to. "Romance" on the first date is bullshit anyway when you don't really know the person.

Honest opinion this is a weird thing to ask for a first date.
There could be many reasons way he isn't arranging an uber for her. For example he arranged a car and she doesn't turn up. Maybe he has a set financial expense for first dates. There is many reasons.

I can see why girls are offended by this but its honestly not that much of a big deal. If you like a guy you just find a way.

Don't start with an expensive meal, start with a coffee! Pay to get yourself there, not for the other one. By all means, choose somewhere convenient to both of you, or even one of you.

That was my assumption. At the end of the day, the choices were made by two individuals, but the lessons are universal. Frankly, "I'm not going without you paying for me to get there" is a huge red flag. If you want to meet someone, you'll make an effort or ask for an alternative location. There's public transport in NYC. Even "It'll cost me a $40 Uber to get there" would have been a reasonable response. He could offer the money or another place.
