How do terribly low quality people get into relationships?

Just speaking from my own personal experience, I dated an amazing man for 3 months, who eventually turned out to be a lunatic. Funny thing is... he had an ex girlfriend who tolerated him for 6 years before she left him. I couldn't even deal with him for 3 months. I've always wondered how she managed to tolerate him for that long. He has no relationship skills or control over his emotions or have any ability to deal with disagreements despite 6 years of relationship experience.

Similarly many years ago, I met the worst friend on earth. He was sadistic, filled with mental issues, loved giving people a hard time, late for every meetup and never apologized, got a lot of satisfaction from making people angry, has a trail of women who hates him, has no emotional intelligence. This man managed to get a girlfriend who was crazy about him for YEARS until she broke up with him eventually.

There was another man that I briefly dated... who lied about his age, income, age of his siblings... he could never admit it when he was wrong. EVER! Everything was never his fault and always my fault. He had an ex girlfriend of 7 years. I couldn't stand him.

so my question is... how do terrible, disordered men get girlfriends?

Because they learn how to act they learn how to say and do everything they think someone wants to hear and then they turn on them. They can’t hide it forever that’s what I tell people. Yes, some people are toxic and intentionally see drama and bad relationships, but more often then not people just don’t know because they are too good to be true in the beginning.

Then they prey on someone’s good nature you feel pity for them you love them. They just see it as weakness and that you therefore deserve to be taken advantage of. Yeah…. That’s how most of them really think.

I’m not going to tear people down for legitimate mental issues. These are people using mental illness as an excuse to act the way they act willfully. They likely do have genuine mental issues but at the end of the day the have to make a choice not to treat people the way they treat people.

These people either A manipulate their way into relationships or B find other low quality people. They a lot of times find someone who eventually feels sorry for them and enables it.

It sounds like you are the problem if you're the one who keeps getting involved with these people. I've never had these kinds of troubles in dating people. I've had normal relationship problems like everyone does, but none like the problems you've had in every single relationship, not even close.

A lot of it is emotional manipulation. Saying things like "you'll never find another man if you leave me". Or perhaps they would do nice things once in a blue moon and that's enough to keep the person interested.
