If a woman was in law enforcement of any kind, corrections, any of that, I’d never date her. ICE would be no exception. It’s just kind of a line of work that requires rigidity and cruelty, and I frankly think it’s audacious to think oneself to be suitable and worthy of that kind of work. Just the desire to do the job makes me strongly doubt that you could simultaneously be a good and decent person in the ways that matter to me. How you treat others matters to me in a partner as much as how they treat me.

You don’t treat people very well in law enforcement, and I oppose authoritarianism with every fiber of my being, so it’s not a profession I have a great deal of admiration for. Or at least I’d say it’s a profession that I will be expecting the worst of it’s professionals, and can only be pleasantly surprised about.

Put it this way: if your workday can involve causing some other human serious hardship, maybe even the worst day of their life? THEN I DON’T LIKE YOU. Period. That’s not a thing that good people do.

I was expecting you to say that. There will always be extremes where I would endorse someone’s arrest. I just think most things labeled as “crime” aren’t really that serious, nor is the average “crime” that’s actually encountered by police. I don’t have a calculated ratio I could give you, but I feel like most cops on the day-to-day duty are going to be an asshole much more often than they’re the hero. I also view their involvement as unnecessarily escalatory in a lot of cases. After a 47 year observation period, they’ve lost the benefit of the doubt for me. Drug dealing and theft are low-level crimes that I don’t really lose my mind about.

Non crimes are things like no drivers license or any license really. Burning trash building a house running a buisiness all without the government s involvement.

I just don’t generally live my life in fear of crime in society. It’s just simply not a mental preoccupation for me. Most things we bust balls over, I just don’t really care, to be honest. I think people get themselves too worked up over just the idea of maybe one day being a victim of something, but honestly, that’s just part of the to-be-expected chaos of life on earth. It’s not something I’m overly concerned with breaking my neck to stop. We have tons of law enforcement personnel and operations; but we still have tons of crime, or at least crime-as-we’ve-defined it. But most of said crimes, I’m kind of just like “whatever.” Stop rapists, stop pedos, stop murders if you can…. but at the end of the day, you probably won’t “stop” much, you’ll only react and respond. The crime still happened; the harm was still done. And laws and punishment have existed before our country even started…. the deterrents are there in full view; yet crime still happens. So I accept it as a societal inevitability to some degree.

I work in law enforcement. I'm an inspector and I'm as cold as they come. I have zero feelings and I never let my feelings interfere with my profession. Yes, there are bad people in this profession, but it's the same everywhere. I've met some white collar criminals who deserve whatever they get. I've seen evil in places you don't even know they exist.

The problem with drug dealing is that it is often provided in an unsanitary and improperly-prepared manner. You have no idea if the dealer knows what the dosage of drug is or even if it is what is claimed, you just have to trust that their supplier isn't deliberately trying to utterly poison you (since most drugs are dangerous and corrosive). If drug dealers were allowed to operate like "independent contractors", where they pay a small fee to have their wares inspected for purity and not arrested for dealing, they could effectively be small-business pharmacists (which is, in essence, what their profession is―minus the licensing, obviously).

I don't think I need to explain why theft, even low-level theft like stealing candy, is bad. Theft is not simply a financial cost and lost property (though that IS the primary concern, for the victim), more importantly it creates a distrust in the community. Low-trust societies are unstable and liable to become lawless. Societies where there are strict penalties for theft are safer than those without, because people are held accountable for their bad decision-making. Let us not forget, though, that some thieves steal out of necessity (because they lack self-control or are hungry) and those people need remedial help, not strict jail sentences. It is the ones who steal, simply because they can and are indifferent to the harm done to others (sometimes they steal BECAUSE they are doing harm to others), are the ones that need to be dealt with.
