Why would a guy delete his Instagram mid-conversation like that?

A guy added me on Instagram and we started texting. His Instagram seemed fake at first, no real name or a profile , but we kept talking, and he said he wanted to take me out sometime. Then, in the middle of the conversation, he suddenly deleted his Instagram. I tried searching for him through my friend’s Instagram, but he was gone.

You first mistake was entertaining some random guy whose identity you weren’t sure about in the first place. Unless you weren’t aware, this is a thing now and has been for years — men sliding into as many female DMs as the can, conversing with the ones who reply, then picking the one (or more) he likes the best. I had a man once DM me and my bestie separately without realizing we knew each other, then when I called him out he blocked us both. In your case the guy most likely blocked you as well and it looks like he deleted his page.
