What do you do when you realize you're overstepping in a situationship?

So my situationship has this job trip he's on
He told me that he'll tell me about it when he gets back in his hotel room. I hadn't seen a response from him and it was passed his usual bedtime. Every time he texts, I text back right away.
That's not always the case when i text him. It's been years so im not just going off this scenario.
I thought, what am I doing? Im not even special to him. Why am I staying up just to hear his experience. Im tired, too. So I put on the stuff I need to sleep. I shut my eyes and 1 min later. Bam! He texted me if im awake. After getting ready for sleep, Im tired. Why should I respond right away? With that type of text, he's probably gonna call or it'll be something lengthy. It'll take my energy that he doesn't even notice, so I didn't open the message and I didn't respond. I went to sleep.

I'm not trash and have self respect so I wouldn't be in a situationship

If you want to go to sleep, then do it. It's not as big of a deal as you're making it.
