How to motivate yourself to do well on... FINALS?

When things go wrong as they sometimes will;
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill;
When the funds are low, and the debts are high;
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh;
When care is pressing you down a bit
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.
Success is failure turned inside out;
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt;
And you can never tell how close you are;
It may be near when it seems afar.
So, stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit
It’s when things go wrong that you mustn’t quit.

Ok, coming from me this is going to sound weird, but i'm a huge stresser and right now i'm asking everybody on GaG what to do for finals!! But I have my own nifty techniques even though I struggle so here they are :)

1. Do it for a cause

In HS or College? each one if only 4 years worth of your time and you can't refuse to go to HS and once you're committed to college or if you want a good job, you can't just quit! So why not go out with a bang? Do the best you can while you're in school because its only preparation for the real world out there, right guys? I mean are you really going to sacrifice your future for a few hours of extra sleep or video games, etc? I know it seems like its all right to slack off right now, but you won't be so sure later in life, all you're going to do is regret your actions, so don't do it for your teachers, do it for YOU!

2. Do not play particular music

Some people say its fine to listen to music while studying but honestly... it really depends. I recommend music without words and not too dramatic and loud. When you're playing music with words while trying to study something it interferes with the memorizing process. When you have calm music without words, your mind isn't focusing on lyrics, with music that isn't your favorite either, your mind isn't invaded with random thoughts. Personally, relaxing study music is good, its literally a genre type on youtube. The power of suggestion truly works here because you're supposed to think its going to help you study given the name study music, and you'll just overall perform better.

3. Use a timer

This one works like a gem for me. Just get a timer, whether its an app timer or an actual timer, and set a time, try not to do something like 3 hours at a time, take it piece by piece like setting it to an hour. For that hour work diligently and when it rings, reward yourself (have it be a sweet or something of that sort), if you reward yourself with internet use you'll find yourself just spending a lot of time on the internet when you were supposed to continue anothher hour several hours ago.

4. Be careful on your health/food selection

Eat carefully. Try not to consume alchohol (that will make you forget..) or a lot of sweets or caffeine (you'll be awake and alert then have a sudden breaking point.) Eat a lot of complex carbs like fruit and veggies and protein and brain food. Cantalope is an ideal complex carb while something like sunflower seeds is good for protein and fish, good for brain food. Stay hydrated as well.

5. Get plenty of sleep

This is by far the most important one, if you have to pull an all-nighter of the sort to catch up, you're screwed because you shouldn't wait till the last minute and you should have done that a while ago, not at 12 a.m. If you get barely enough rest, chances are you're going to perform average to bad.

6. Stress but don't over stress

Its shown that we actually perform way better under some stress, with no stress we tend to slack off, and with too much we perform bad. But there is just a right amount that helps us to perform very well. So take it easy and believe in yourself that you will perform well, but put some pressure on yourself just to give you a little push.

7. Imagine yourself studying and then acing finals and make a schedule

sIf you imagine yourself doing well its going to be easier to get your head back on and actually do it, if you imagine it its not going to look so hard and you may just look at it that way the entire time. Making a schedule is also very important because staying organized is one of the main parts of finals, without organization you'd be all over the place.

Share what helps you :))
