Tips for Scoring a Successful Job Interview

Everyday, you are applying to many jobs. Imagine that you prepared your CV and applied for a job.

Then they evaluated your application and called you for an interview. You will probably have limited time to make a good impression, and you will also have no idea how it will go. That's why you must be prepared for these possibilities:

They will ask you about your career

Prepare a short and interesting summary about your last job and rehearse it. Specify your experiences about the job that you applied. Make sure it doesn't take more than 10 min.

They will ask you why you find yourself suitable for this job

It's more difficult to be prepared for these kind of questions. But still, you must have some titles on your mind.

They will ask you personal questions which are chosen randomly

And probably they will do that in an offensive way to test your velocity of thinking and flexibility. Think fast and keep your cool. The person asking questions may be testing your reaction to the difficult questions which are not fair.

In the first 30 sec. of the interview they will observe your appearance, manners, and speech. So have confidence and be cheerful (even if you feel nervous, smile. It will have a big effect). Also don't forget to make eye contact while talking.

Keep in mind these fine details

- Don't sit before they show you where to sit.

- Don't look at your watch during the interview.

- Don't ask about the salary before the interviewer opens the topic.

- Don't disconnect eye contact.

- Be honest and say if you don't know the answer.

- Show how willing and enthusiastic you are for that job.

- Be punctual and get there 15 minutes early.

Learn about the company that wishes to employ you. Most important tip is to dress well for the interview , be there on time , Maintain a good body posture when you have to sit in the waiting room. When you enter the interview room , wish every one politely. Present you best self confidently. Answer the interview questions well. And negotiate for a better deal.

Seriously I have tried some of these after looking them up for previous interviews if I've gotten to the interview stage and it doesn't seem to work. I think it might be more of the lack of experience I have.

1) They've already seen your resume and know your background. You've already made it past the initial vetting process, and they already think your qualifications for the job are acceptable. Any questions they ask about the job itself will be to check if you are lying on your resume, or to clarify some detail.

2) Related to #1, since you've already passed the initial vetting process, what they are really interested in is *who* you are. This is the most important part of the interview. The most important part of *who* is your personality. They want to know if you're the kind of person they want to work with every day for years. They want to know if you'll get along with other employees, or cause tension.

Managers DO NOT like to deal with personality conflicts. They would much rather hire someone with less job qualifications than someone who might cause tension. You don't have to be someone bubbly and overly outgoing, just someone they can get along with.

3) Your are selling yourself. It's OK to brag a little. But keep it subtle, and definitely don't come across as cocky. When they ask questions, be honest with your answers. If your truthful answer is negative, state it simply and don't dwell on it. Otherwise keep it positive. This is sales, not "I'm a terrible person day".

4) Everyone is different. That includes the people interviewing you. There are lots of suggestions and guidelines for doing a good interview. Think of those guidelines as defaults, not as absolute rules. What one interviewer might love, another might hate. Use your people skills to read the interviewer, and even the company environment and culture. Adjust as needed.

5) The interviewers are busy and have other work to do. Be friendly, but don't get overly chit chatty and drag the interview on. Watch for cues that the interview is coming to an end. They need to get back to work, so don't put them in an uncomfortable position of trying to figure out how to get rid of this person.

6) Learn from your mistakes. Interviews take practice. Refine your technique as you go. Know yourself and the type of things you do right and wrong. Keep a mental list of things you know you need to improve.

- display relaxed body language

- get a good, full night of sleep before the interview and also the night before that

- have answers for standard questions drilled into your head

- anticipate possible technical questions and drill the answers to those in your head as well: they tell you they just want to see how you think but in reality they care about you giving the answer they want to hear and you have to do it in 5 minutes without google or wikipedia so being "quick on your feet" or a "creative thinker" really won't cut it unless you happen to be Albert Einstein himself.

- stroke the interviewer/company's ego: if they tell you that they value efficiency over everything then later ask you what you disliked most on a previous job then answer how you hated that some previous company you worked at was horribly inefficient (your instinct might tell you that they would see through this but they probably won't)

Basically it's no different than picking up a ditzy girl.

Don't go TOO heavy on the eye contact, though. You come across as a lunatic. :P

Also, prove your expertise and enthusiasm by offering ideas for the company based on the position in question. Even if you're not quite as qualified as another candidate, a company is often more likely to hire the slightly less qualified candidate if they can show a lot of dedication and interest during the interview.
