Before You Take Out A Student Loan, Read This

Anyone who wants to go to University (I am not talking about Community college or other parts of the world call it college) I am only talking about University. Please for the love of god don't go to get a degree!. Now many people will keep telling you the lie that your degree on average will make you more compare to college grads. But that is not the case! depending on the degree you probably don't have opportunities at all!. For example, let's say you claim "well I am going for a business I am not stupid like those liberal arts majors". Guess what? you can literally just work your way up in a company and be in the same position then going to University for 4 years then go work in a company with $40,000 debt Also, you got to count in that robots are most likely going to replace a lot of business jobs research analyst? can be done by a computer, HR? computer too and who knows what else is going to be gone in the next few years. If you want to do business go and create your own business at lease a big company like Amazon,Macys etc won't throw your ass on the street, making you homeless and not care. You make the rules since it's your company and you can figure out how to run a successful business by the internet. There TONS of people who make books,videos, guides etc for free to help you with that. Ok you might say ok what about law? there so many people right now with law degrees that are not lawyers with 100k and over debt. Might as well just be a cop then with less debt and hopefully get in a police department.

DO RESEARCH ON THE WORST DEGREES TO GET

Then don't go in debt for those degrees I know some of you might claim "I want to be a

architect!" or "I been dreaming about being a sociologist since I was age 12" well times have age and since a lot of baby boomers can't retire right now there no point getting debt young and keep it for years. Now you probably think "Well it just $40,000 I can pay if off in a few years who cares?" here the thing the jobs right now can't keep you afloat for rent what makes you think it can help you with your student debt? plus things come up all the time, like getting accidentally pregnant, losing your job, getting a deadly illness that makes you stay out of work for a very long time like cancer and other diseases. You can't rely that you can easily get a job and pay off these loans many people since high school been in and out of retail work for years retail is not a reliable source of income to help you pay off this loan!. Plus remember what I am about to type because this is important

IF YOU DON'T PAY OFF YOUR LOANS BEFORE INTERESTS KICKS IN YOU OWN MORE THEN WHAT YOU BORROW.

Now I didn't know this before it happen but just making the payments that the government ask you to pay back like let's say just pay back $50 a month. They will added interest on top of that and you own MORE then what you BORROW. Even if you think making small payments will be enough it will not be, because the interest will add in and you own more so that $40,000 degree can easily be 100,000 and up if you just paying what the government ask you to pay for. BEST THING TO DO IS AVOID UNIVERSITY, JUST GO TO COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIFE.

ALSO ONE MORE THING:

THERE NO PERFECT JOB JUST BECAUSE YOU DAYDREAM WHAT A UNIVERSITY JOB WILL BE LIKE DOESN'T MEAN IT'S IDEAL IN REAL LIFE.

You might think you have to go to University because it's your dream it's not reality! listen to me and other people who already made the mistake and took those loans out don't do it! save up first then go to school and give yourself time after high school to think what you want to do. Then make a plan for your future.

I am planning to make more mytakes on this issue because I don't want more people to keep being stupid and going to Universities.

To be honest if you're not going for a STEM degree or the degree your taking does not have a job lined up afterwards then yeah getting a degree at University is a waste.

I know plenty of people who went to college for trades and had trouble finding work. I know people who went to university and are having trouble finding work. Thing is if you don't go into university in my city and then move away you're stuck as a line worker in a factory, flipping burgers, or in retail. So taking a shot at something in demand is best.

On top of this while getting my degree I got turned down for jobs because I didn't have that degree even if I When I was a month away from obtaining it. I also got turned away from some jobs because they hired a guy with a masters degree. A lot of jobs reauire something so it is better to go to university it just helps to be smart in what you take.

I'd also suggest going into something that'll give you a lot of versatility, or give you skills that help you build stuff on your own too.

I also agree that you don't want to pay off the minimum that the government requires because you'll get screwed by interest rates and never finish paying your loan off. Depending on the amount of money you make after going 40k in debt for a loan I'd be working to pay off 25%-50% of that off per year if possible and get it paid off in 2-5 years.

Even trades where you live jesus christ what is going on? I heard rumours online people are saying they probably just reject natural citizens for foreigners to pay them less.

That might be it. My city's economy depended on the big three now it depends on manly one of the big three. The economy has been dead since 2008 and wasn't too great before then. To get into anything here you need to know the right person at the right time especially for the trades. The besst thing to do is get a stem degree and go somewhere else.

Also a lot of things like call centers, and other things are being replaced by robotics, automated machines, self checkouts, kiosks, basically anything to not actually hire people and save on money (in terms of employment).

Ikr my friend work up to be a manager for a candy store (she goes to college for a career in mental health) and she lost her job just like that because the company had to close down everything except two stores. All that hard work and she lost everything just like that.

Retail is starting to sink and I only see dollar store staying alive for poor people and cheap people.

Lucky she was living with her parents and they not hard on her about the job searching right now she did work at another store but apparently that company is slowing dying and I am not sure if she quit or was let go. But she did tell her boss there to get the fuck out of retail because she won't be safe when it goes under. The girl thank her for saying that.

I remember I work at Payless Shoes a girl left there for her internship in Saskatchewan for nursing and a year later I saw her back at the mall not at payless shoes but a different shoe store when I was going prom shopping and honestly I am surprise she back in the mall working. Espically since she went and did her nursing diploma/degree (not sure which one she did)

Ah so you're also Canadian. I had a friend who went into Nursing. He works in the US now. It's hard to predict what the future holds but your friend still got her skills for mental health and could do something with them.

I hope the best for her and she barely owns any tuition back she took out grant only tuition. But I don't know man they keep saying nursing degrees are ideal then how come many complaining they can't find work?

But yeah I am planning to leave North America for a few years to gain experience aboard.

I agree I think they less hard on you there too! it so hard to get a retail job in Canada. You think it be easy it's not even a hard job man.

I totally agree! Especially with the last part... if only high school prepared you for what you wanted to be in the future instead of making us do stuff that most of us don't use in our everyday life...

But it depends online courses are more and more becoming a thing you can always pay for a online course or get it free somehow and see if you really want to do it.

Besides you can always ask people who is in a certain job what they do everything online.

Honestly.

My degree is paying off. Well and lots.

But the majority of people are not. The good thing is in the UK it gets written off after 30 years so we aren’t as bad.

But the amount of people getting degrees and the amount of jobs aren’t there don’t match up.

We do not need more degrees. We need more doctors, engineers and lawyers.

Unfortunately people call sports science a degree

there plenty of people who already have those degrees you really don't need to go to be a engineers, lawyers, doctors since there plenty who are just having a hard time paying off their debt.

There is a major shortage of engineers doctors and lawyers across the world in the uk too.

ENGIneers are by far the most versatile so they can be anything from accountants to bankers so we can never have enough of us.

What we need is quality degrees. Not more degrees.

Excuse me? angry I am not angry a lot of people who become doctors don't go to the country to help those people they rather stay in the city. So how do you think there be more doctors if the people can be doctors don't want to take the loans for it, don't even want to move if they have to, to find work and takes 8-10 years of their lives to complete?

It's good thing they planning to use robots to be doctors as well since many people are not becoming doctors.

I would say you have some underlying anger. Nothing major just low deep lying. More like frustration.

But I would say there is a massive shortage in skilled areas in the UK and Europe. A massive shortage

Well we know that but the problem with being a doctor they are overwork and tired so I don't blame people who don't want to do it or know they don't have the grades or money to do it. But I am not frustrated people should only go to University for STEM Programs obviously. But people will try to manipulate to go to University just because it "better your life regardless your degree".
