funny you say political science considering many of the people who run government have that degree. if you ever spoke to politicians, they'd tell you what degree they majored in. the only time a degree is useless is when a person is too dumb to sell themselves and find opportunities. i see that you're 50. well goodie. employers used to be impressed with a basic college degree 30 years ago. nowadays, not even that is enough. you need a masters and/or a couple years of work experience.

History IU ens a lot of doors to some surprising careers. You need it if you want to be curator of any museum. Also the US military hires historians for military history. There's a reason we got a degree in history and didn't immediately go to graduate school.

You can, but can't get the jobs. I didn't go to graduate school, but I did a lot of post graduate study from books.

When I moved away for college, I had never realized that there were people in college who did not want to be there and they were only there because their parents insisted on it. (It is so expensive now that I would imagine that this isn't as common now?) Often they had a major that would be unlikely to lead up to a career when they graduated. A lot of young women were told by their parents that they "would meet a nice and ambitious man who they would marry" while they were away at college anyway. That certainly wasn't always the case... LOL

I knew one lady who majored in "International Studies", but then went back to college after a year or two, for another four years, to major in something where they could actually get a job. On the other hand, I have heard of people being able to get a job in International Studies but I would imagine it is more the exception.

There's this one university in my country which satirically posts on Facebook joke-courses about, "discover your micro aggression", and "inclusion classes", it's hilarious.

Apart from this, sociology has evolved from what little use I personally viewed it had to a complete farse of inane pseudo-sciences and pretentious virtue-signalling. My favorite roast of sociology is when Ben Shapiro is asked; Do you consider yourself an expert on sociology?
Ben: I mean I don't consider sociology to be an expert field.

It’s a matter of supply and demand. If you major in something that so many others are majoring in then obviously you’re still gonna have a lot of competition and less chances of landing the job, unless you stand out in some other way.
But go for something like nursing or accounting right now and watch opportunities start flying to your door.

Well even a good degree can be useless if it comes from a bad university... I mean no degree from the university of Phoenix is worth anything lol...

as for types of degrees they are mostly all useful, except maybe critical theory or other post modern BS
