That's not what those words mean. Make college debt dischargeable under bankruptcy and the schools will stop pedaling this worthless garbage as soon as they realize none of their graduates are going to get out of their 100k debt before the stars burn out.

I'm a little confused by what you said. If the debt is dischargeable, doesn't that mean that the schools will stop offering the program? Because all of their graduates will get out of the dead eventually? Am I missing something here? As I said I'm confused. Help me!

Nope... you're not confused. That makes the colleges accountable. They aren't peddling snake oil anymore, and they'll self police themselves. They won't have incentive to charge 100k for worthless degrees because it will be a bad investment for them. College kids aren't doing it for themselves obviously.

In that case, I would regard making the debt dischargeable as a public service to eliminate frivolity in our colleges and schools. No more 100k feminist study degrees except perhaps for dilettantes.

I think it should come with the bankruptcy stipulation. Holds people accountable for their stupid choice in degree. Why should the tax payer pay or them, then people never are held accountable and a certain segment of "modern society" has too much of that already.

I understand the point, but I would rather discourage people from taking these courses of "study" to begin with, since when they do they then eventually go out in the world and typically great harm based on the crap they learned.

I think they will be discouraged when the schools have had to eat so much loss financially that they simply won't offer stupid non-earning degrees anymore.

I run a school. I have engineering and gender studies as my only options. Half the GS kids end up filing or bankruptcy and I never get reimbursed, thereby taking a hit in the profitability column, I'm going to offer a whole hell of a lot less of it in the future (or the governing board will replace me). That way we're not depending on children to make good decisions when they were eating Tide Pods two years earlier. Look... I mean we lock up guns if there are small kids in the house or the same reason, because they're going to do stupid shite. Take the stupid shite away from 'em... they can't do it, and the universities will no longer empower these brain donor professors who have no real contribution to society. Their getting knocked off their pedestal is a win for everyone.

Only under bankruptcy, not though the government just deciding to pay it off. I don't think the prez/congress should just wipe it out. Then there are no consequences for the students or the schools, because the schools are still getting paid and the students no longer have debt. I think they should have to do what the rest of us have to do when we make shite financial decisions. Once enough kids realize they bought a stupid degree and file BK, they learn a lesson and the schools learn a lesson, because they're now just getting pennies on the dollar for what they sold, which invariably will make them have to reconsider what they're selling.

I know that women who get communications degrees often go on to be newscasters on different stations and make a hell of a lot of money. However, if they aren't blonde and attractive, no degree is going to make any difference relative to this sort of job.
